Translation
Once upon a time, Zhuangzi dreamed he was a butterfly, fluttering about joyfully, just a butterfly. He was conscious only of following his whims as a butterfly, unaware that he was Zhuangzi. Suddenly he awoke, and there he was, solidly and unmistakably Zhuangzi. But he didn't know if he was Zhuangzi who had dreamt of being a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming of being Zhuangzi. Between Zhuangzi and the butterfly there must be some distinction. This is called the Transformation of Things.
