Translation
Therefore it is said: the Perfect Man has no self, the Spirit Man has no merit, the Sage has no fame. Yao wanted to cede the empire to Xu You and said: 'When the sun and moon have risen, the torches still burn on — isn't it hard for them to give light? When the seasonal rains have fallen, if you keep watering the fields — isn't that wasted labor? If you take your place, the world will be well governed, yet I am the one running things. I look at myself and see how inadequate I am. Please take the empire.'
