In the state of Qi there was a man who worried that the sky and earth might collapse and fall, leaving him with nowhere to live, so that he stopped sleeping and eating. Another man, troubled by his worry, went to enlighten him, saying, 'The sky is only accumulated air; there is no place without air. As you bend and stretch and breathe, you move about all day within the sky. Why worry that it will collapse and fall?' The man said, 'If the sky is really accumulated air, should not the sun, moon, and stars fall down?' The one enlightening him said, 'The sun, moon, and stars are only the shining things within the accumulated air. Even if they did fall, they could not hurt anyone.' The man said, 'But what of the earth breaking apart?' He answered, 'The earth is only accumulated lumps, filling up the void on every side; there is no place without these lumps. As you walk and stamp and tread, you move about all day upon the earth. Why worry that it will break apart?' At this the man was greatly relieved and rejoiced, and the one who had enlightened him was also greatly relieved and rejoiced.
